Welcoming Ministry

Welcome to St Josephs parish
St Joseph's Parish has a warm welcome for all new parishioners. Over the last three years several initiatives have been set up to promote welcoming within our parish.

Morning tea:
Morning teas after 8am and 10am mass on the second and fourth weeks during school term. These events, held straight after mass, give parishioners time to connect with one another. We have four morning tea teams with around 8 volunteers in each. The team rostered on provides morning tea and sets up tea, coffee and soft drinks. They also take time to talk and introduce parishioners to one another.
Many volunteers and parishioners have found the experience a great way of meeting people and making new friends. Please stay and have a cuppa or if you would like to join one of our teams then please feel free to contact the Parish Office for details.

Children's Liturgy:

This ministry is coordinated by Sonya Tomic and is a way of our Parish welcoming young children. We believe children are the future of our parish so we need to bring God's word to them in a way that is relevant and meaningful.
Sonya has a wonderful team of helpers but due to the large numbers of children attending could always do with a few more hands.
Please feel free to bring children or grandchildren along to these liturgies they happen on the same weeks as the morning tea so you can stay and have refreshment at the end of Mass too.
Children wait in Church for Mass to begin and after the welcome and first blessing are invited, by Father, to receive the Bible before proceeding down the the Parish Hall. Children return to the congregation to sit with their carers at the offertory.

Youth and Family Mass:

St Joseph's Parish has had a thriving Youth Mass for many years. This Mass is held once a month and is a great way for young parishioners to become actively involved in our Parish.
Mary Clare Ebbs co-ordinates these Masses with the help of 20 volunteers who are split up into teams. Volunteer rosters are kept large so that the Masses run smoothly and the load is not left to a few. Clarel and Nathalie Farla organize the music and choir and are always happy to have new members. Any adult or child wanting to join the musicians and choir should contact the Music Ministry team. Contact details are in the Parish directory

We are very lucky to have the support of our Catholic Primary School especially our family educator Mrs Tracy Bowler. Our Catechists, who provide scripture in our state schools, also help in advertising and reminding their students about the Youth Mass.
Grade masses ensure each age group has the opportunity to lead the mass and the catechists and family educator send flyers home to all families. This ensures that all families feel welcomed and part of our Parish.

Future ideas for our welcoming committee are to establish a playgroup. If you are interested in becoming involved in this project please contact Mary-Clare Ebbs 0404 310284.
